In this article, I will tell about a new feature of Instagram which is said to be a rival to the Tiktok application called Instagram Reel. But first we need to know what Instagram reels really are.

What is Instagram Reels ?

In short, Instagram Reels is a new way to create more engaging and fun video content on Instagram Stories. Just like TikTok, through Reels, users can record and edit short 15-second videos, to then share in Stories, Explore Feed or the new Reels tab on the user’s profile.

Besides being able to see Reels from accounts that have been followed, users can also see Reels from accounts that are trending on Instagram. The contents of each user’s Explore page will be different, depending on who is followed, what kind of content is viewed and where the user is located.

Why does Instagram make Instagram Reels ?

Arguably, Reels came into existence as a direct response to the increasing popularity of TikTok in the last 12 months. Adweek described TikTok as “the most downloaded app in a quarter” in Q1 2020.

In addition, TikTok’s demographics are also changing rapidly, where Millennials, who are the best targets for advertisers, now have a larger share than before. Therefore, it is not surprising that Instagram is then interested in following TikTok, especially in countries where TikTok is not yet booming like Brazil.

So what’s the difference between Instagram Reels and TikTok?

One of the most significant differences between Reels and TikTok is the fact that Reels only limits its users to creating videos that are up to 15 seconds long. On the other hand, TikTok has extended the maximum duration to 60 seconds earlier this year.

Instagram’s head of product — Vishal Shah, said that Reels will differ from TikTok in giving users a more built-out augmented reality platform, as well as offering a new way to create short videos directly from within Instagram, a place they already love and know how to do. use it.

Instagram Reels become a new alternative to reach fans for creators

Apart from being a new way to use Instagram, Reels is also a new alternative for building community and increasing reach on Instagram — especially for creators. This is an interesting and fun way to share creative content with fans.
